Man wins appeal of divorce court's asset and property division

When family law courts in Jefferson County and elsewhere are determining asset distribution and property division in divorces, it is their job to fairly distribute those assets between the parties. While courts understand it is not possible to make those involved whole again in divorce settlements, they do their best to ensure the equitable division of marital property, bank accounts and other assets. Unfortunately, this does not always happen.

Oscar nominated actor's divorce finally settled

It should come as no surprise to readers in Denver that divorces are, at times, long, drawn out affairs. This can be due to any number of factors, including extensive time spent on valuation and asset division, as well as the case itself just making its way through the court system. For celebrities and high-profile couples in particular, there are times when the divorce proceedings and settlement process lasts longer than the marriage itself.

Marriage is usually entered into with the best of intentions. Sometimes, however, despite no fault on either side, it just does not workout. With all of the emotions involved, divorce often becomes messier than it needs to be. More and more, couples in Denver and elsewhere are choosing divorce mediation over traditional arbitration. In some states, family law courts have made family mediation sessions a mandatory part of the divorce process. Divorce mediation is meant to be a cordial process to allow couples to end their marriage without the emotional stress, financial challenges and hassle that so often accompany divorce proceedings.

Celebrities and other high-profile couples not only have to deal with media attention during divorce proceedings, they are often also involved in multiple, drawn out hearings in order to divide assets and reach settlements. Marital property, non-marital property, business assets and retirement accounts are among the numerous types of assets that often must be valued and distributed in divorce settlements.

No big gambling payouts for those who owe child support

Whether parents are together or not, they are both expected to contribute to raising their child. All too often people fall behind on their child support payments for one reason or another. Individual states, such as Colorado and others, each have their own regulations and enforcement policies to ensure the financial needs of raising a child are met. In many states, severe consequences are put in place as deterrents, to prevent parents from defaulting on their obligations.
