It should come as no surprise to readers in Denver that divorces are, at times, long, drawn out affairs. This can be due to any number of factors, including extensive time spent on valuation and asset division, as well as the case itself just making its way through the court system. For celebrities and high-profile couples in particular, there are times when the divorce proceedings and settlement process lasts longer than the marriage itself.
A settlement has finally been reached in the divorce hearing between actor, Terrence Howard, and his now ex-wife. According to reports, the pair has been embroiled in a high-asset divorce since 2011. While divorces are often contentious, this dispute reportedly got incredibly nasty following Howard’s allegations of what is tantamount to blackmail by his former wife and her accusations that she was both abused and threatened by Howard.
There has not been any information released regarding a monetary settlement or spousal support at this time. Howard’s former wife appears to have gotten the short end of the stick in terms of the asset division. She was awarded a BMW and a bicycle, while Howard was reportedly awarded more than 20 bank accounts, two houses and a Range Rover in the settlement. It is unknown to the public at this time whether or not Howard and his ex-wife had entered into a pre-nuptial agreement prior to their marriage.
Divorce is rarely easy. Even if both parties agree on its necessity and all of the terms, there are still emotions and feelings tied up into every aspect of settling. With that in mind, it may be helpful for anyone considering a divorce to consult with an attorney. Legal representation can help to look out for your interests and answer any questions you may have.
