One of the most preventable types of accident in Denver is drunk driving accidents. Drunk drivers can turn a family upside down in a matter of seconds. Serious injuries including death are common with these accidents, causing unanticipated expenses and changing lives forever.
A man has been jailed in connection with a deadly accident that happened in Montbello on Christmas morning. Just after midnight, the man failed to stop at a red light at East 51st Avenue and Peoria Street and hit a car carrying four people. The driver was killed and three of her family members were injured. The negligent driver ran from the scene, but police tracked him down soon after. Police stated that he reeked of alcohol and marijuana when he was arrested. He has been charged with vehicular homicide and assault.
Families are affected by drunk drivers daily in the United States. They leave a tremendous impact on those involved and can cause extremely serious injuries.
If a loved one is affected by a drunk driver, the victim or their family may file a lawsuit against the drunk driver. Expenses surrounding an unexpected injury or death can be huge and holding another person accountable for their actions is important in these cases. The victim may be able to recover compensation for their medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
Denver residents know the effect that drunk drivers have on their communities and on the families of those who suffer injury or death in an accident. Making sure these drivers are held accountable for their actions - both in civil and criminal court - can play a role in reducing the number of these crimes.
