While celebrities and the wealthy can seem to have it all, they often succumb to the same acrimony in divorce proceedings can plague the average Denver resident. Although they have millions of dollars, some of these people still argue vehemently over divorce settlement issues such as alimony and child support, arguing that these payment requirements should be reduced.
Last month, actor Charlie Sheen asked a judge to cut his monthly child support payments to ex-wife Denise Richards. The two actors’ marriage resulted in three minor-aged daughters, and under their current divorce settlement he is required to pay Richards $55,000 a month in child support. Reports do not indicate whether a judge has made a decision on the request to have these payments reduced.
It is being reported that Sheen has not paid child support since February of this year, which amounts to $165,000 in owed back payments. According to a source, Sheen believes that he should not pay such a high amount because he does not see his daughters very often. The actor claims that Richards blocked their children from seeing him during Christmas last year.
Divorce is rarely an easy process for anyone, even those who have a great deal of money. Negotiating child support guidelines can be especially difficult, particularly when one parent has primary custody and the other must make regular payments without seeing the children often. If you are currently facing a child support dispute and would like a better understanding of your legal options, you may want to contact an attorney.
