Click it or Ticket begins in many CO towns

Denver and car drivers from surrounding area know that seatbelts save lives. Unfortunately, not everyone has received that message and those that aren't buckled up can suffer serious injury and even death if they're involved in a car accident.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has provided grants to 28 rural Colorado law agencies to assist them in enforcing seatbelt wearing throughout their area. The "Click it or Ticket" campaign has law agencies increase their enforcement for seatbelt use and educate the public on how important they are. In previous years the campaigns have shown that up to 30-40 percent of drivers or their passengers were not properly buckled. If drivers are found to not be wearing their seatbelt they can face a fine of at least $65. In 2013 there were 178 fatalities on Colorado roads from people who were not wearing their seatbelt. The CDOT reminds drivers that all car rides, regardless of how long they are, require that the car's occupants be buckled. Wearing a seatbelt is also the best defense for drivers to protect themselves against other negligent drivers.

Even when all safety measures have been taken, car accidents still happen. Serious injury including a brain injury or even death can happen to those whose path cross a negligent driver. The lives of the victim's family can be turned upside down with the serious injury or death of a loved one. If a serious accident happens a family may find that consulting with a legal professional can help the family determine what happened to their loved one. If a negligent driver is involved in the accident, damages can be awarded to the victim or their family. It is important to hold negligent drivers accountable for their actions so they don't hurt anyone ever again.

Residents of Denver and surrounding areas should be aware that many law enforcement agencies are cracking down on those who are not wearing their seatbelts. Wearing a seatbelt provides peace of mind that little else can while driving.
