Colorado residents understand how any type of accident in the roadway could impact the lives of the victims and their loved ones. Drunk driving accidents are entirely preventable tragedies that affect thousands of families each year. These drivers make the decision to drive after consuming too much alcohol and risk the lives of everyone they meet on the road.
A high school senior died recently after being hit by a suspected drunk driver. The 17-year-old girl was riding with a friend northbound on Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada. A truck traveling southbound crossed several lanes of traffic and struck their car head-on. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was also seriously injured. It was discovered that the driver of the truck that crossed the lanes of traffic had a blood alcohol content around twice the legal limit. He received minor injuries and authorities say he will be arrested.
Families everyday are unfairly affected by the actions of a drunk driver. These drivers make reckless decisions that affect everyone around them. If a family has been affected by a drunk driver, they might have legal remedies available to them such as filing a civil action.
Examining the accident scene and conducting an independent investigation could help with their cause of action. Investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident could help determine what happened to cause the serious injury or death. If negligence of another driver is believed to be the cause they can hold that person responsible. Compensation is available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.
When a family has been unexpectedly affected by a drunk driver it is important to hold them responsible for their negligence. They made the terrible decision to drive after drinking so it is important to make sure they never harm another family again.
