You may have heard about Arnold Schwarzenegger's infidelity and marriage troubles by now, but in case you haven't, his newly-released book "Total Recall" may get you up to speed. The celebrity and his wife separated a little over a year ago, just after his term in office as California's governor ended and the allegations about his son with their housekeeper came out. His then wife, Maria Shriver, reportedly waited until after his time in office was over to confront him about the affair.
Going through a divorce when one of the spouses has committed an affair can make the process so much more emotional. Feelings of betrayal often come up and sometimes the feelings of commitment don't go away. Schwarzenegger has come out and explained his relations with the woman who used to work in his household and the son the two parent, and has also declared his positive outlook on his rocky relationship with Shriver. He spoke on television earlier this week, stating that he "will always love her."
Schwarzenegger had a perspective question posed to him in the interview Monday night, on Jay Leno's "The Tonight Show." The talk show host asked him what he would have done, were the situation reversed. Schwarzenegger replied that he understood his previous spouse's reaction and wishes after she found out and would have likely had the same ones. It can be hard to keep in mind your spouse's perspective when something like this has happened, and, while it can't take away what has been done, it could help to begin the healing process and to keep your family's interests at heart.
Colorado residents who are going through a divorce themselves could look into working with an appropriate family law attorney to find out their options and help them to move forward. Divorce mediation or separation mediation also could help, if you find yourself in a situation similar to this, to discuss and negotiate the property division and custody agreements.
