"Twilight" star Peter Facinelli talks on being a divorced parent

Maintaining a relationship with your ex is often one of the most difficult things to do after a divorce, but can be crucial for your children's sakes. Recent news has reported on the divorce of "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli and previous "Beverly Hills 90210" star, Jennie Garth, and now the two are entering the somewhat treacherous land of co-parenting. The two are parents to three daughters, and Facinelli was recently discussing his experience of being a divorced father.

The father of three girls has said that he takes his new co-parenting job one day at a time, spending the time he does have with his children doing things just as a family. He mentions going on trips in the RV and doing camping activities. Facinelli also reflects on how the bonding time has been affecting him and his children, noting that the relationships challenge parent and children to have either sensitive or tougher sides come out. The two celebrities appear to have a good idea of how to approach parenting as a divorced couple, showing appreciation for each other. "Co-parenting takes two great parents to put their differences aside and focus on the children," Facinelli reportedly said.

Working with your ex can help the transition from one family into two immensely for your children. Keeping the legal drama out of their heads can help them to acclimate to the new situation. Parental alienation can happen sometimes, even when a parent doesn't notice it, so being aware of how your children watch you and your previous spouse can help you to understand their perspective and how best to interact in front of them.

Colorado residents who have children and are going through a divorce could look into working with a lawyer who has experience in family law and child custody. Understanding that there are some compromises you may have to make and keeping the children in mind can help you and your ex come to an appropriate agreement about the custody and parenting time of your children.
