Father or sperm donor? Patric fights for custody of son

In Denver, and other cities all over the U.S., women use in-vitro fertilization to try and conceive a child. Sometimes a couple goes in together, while other times a woman may choose to start a family on her own. This can sometimes lead to complicated legal situations when custody of a child conceived through fertilization treatment is called into question.

Discrepancies over a father's intentions toward his child at the time of conception are at the heart of a child custody dispute between actor, Jason Patric, and his former girlfriend. Patric filed the lawsuit, but it was not reported whether he was seeking full custody or a joint custody arrangement. The child's mother reportedly maintains that Patric donated sperm for her in-vitro fertilization, but never had any intention of raising the boy.
