One of the most tragic elements of some car accidents is its preventable nature. In Denver, drunk driving accidents are some of the most avoidable type of car accidents. The choice a person makes to drive after drinking can result in serious injuries and death for the driver, their passengers or other people.
An Arvada man recently pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and vehicular assault which resulted in the death of another driver in October of 2012. The Arvada driver was drinking at a local bar for hours before getting into his car. He made a left hand turn without his lights on, failing to yield the right of way at the intersection of Wadsworth Parkway and West 92nd Ave. A car driven by a man and his wife ran into him while he was making the illegal turn. The man died in the crash and his wife was seriously injured. The drunk driver's blood alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit. He is scheduled for sentencing in March when he faces up to 18 years in prison.
The fatal mistake that a person makes getting behind the wheel after drinking can have life-altering effects. Families that are affected by a drunk driver's negligence face heart break and questions regarding what happened to their loved one. A legal professional skilled in wrongful death can help families navigate the law to recover financial compensation. Nothing can bring back the loss of a loved one, but financial compensation for medical expenses, funeral expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering can help families move forward with their grief process and provide for their financial future.
Denver families who are affected by a drunk driver should consider holding negligent drivers accountable for their actions. The unimaginable grief brought on by a drunk driver deserves fair settlements for the victims and their families.
