Recent snow brings many car accidents

With the recent return of winter weather to Colorado, the number of car accidents has increased. This past Sunday, on Mother's Day, the state saw quite a bit of snow. This caused numerous highways to be closed and many accidents.

U.S. Hwy 285 was closed near Windy Point for a seven-vehicle accident involving a Jefferson County deputy's vehicle. Ambulances and multiple fire departments were called to that scene to assist and four people were taken to the hospital. The cars involved had slid off into the ditch and also hit the deputy's car causing him to have minor injuries. In another accident that same night, a Colorado State Patrolman's vehicle was hit while he was investigating a crash on the same highway. A driver lost control of his car and hit the trooper's car head-on while it was parked on the side of the road. The trooper and a passenger in the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Winter weather can come at any time, even in May, in Colorado and it's important for drivers to remain safe in inclement weather. If a person must drive somewhere, going slow and cautiously is always recommended. In the event that someone suffers a serious injury or even death as the result of a negligent driver, compensation may be available for medical expenses, funeral expenses, loss of wages, etc. An attorney skilled in personal injury law can help these families determine what happened to cause the accident and who was at fault. Holding negligent drivers accountable for their mistake can help make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Weather related accidents can be hard to avoid because the conditions can change at any moment. Prudent, careful driving is always the safe way to tackle harsh weather conditions.
