Residents in Colorado understand that there are various dangers on and near the roadways. Whether an individual is driving, cycling or walking, a negligent or distracted driver could be the cause of a serious or even fatal crash. When it comes to sharing the road with bikers and pedestrians, drivers should always be aware of their surroundings. This means checking blind spots, using mirrors, signaling a turn and reducing their speeds when traveling near them. Failure to do so could result in a collision.
Authorities in Colorado Springs were recently dispatched to the scene of a pedestrian accident. According to preliminary reports, the fatal crash occurred on North Murray Boulevard and involved a vehicle and two pedestrians. Authorities reported that the vehicle containing two adults and two children was speeding down the roadway when it struck a rock in the road. This caused the vehicle to spin out and strike a father and son who were walking along the street.
The boy was pronounced dead, while his father was injured due to the impact of the vehicle. The four people in the vehicle were also injured. Authorities believe that speed was a factor in the fatal crash. No charges have been filed at this time, but this incident could result in traffic, criminal and civil liabilities.
The loved ones of the deceased pedestrian could file a wrongful death suit. This could provide surviving family members with compensation to cover medical bills, funeral costs, and other damages caused by the accident.
Suffering the loss of a loved one due to the negligence of another can be a difficult situation from which to recover. In addition to coping with the death, loved ones often endure financial burdens associated with the accident. Filing a cause of action could help alleviate those financial concerns.
