Erratic and reckless driving is not only a hazard to others on the road but to the negligent driver as well. For one Colorado man, reckless driving not only caused death and destruction but landed him in the hospital with a warrant issued for his arrest.
The driver, a 34-year-old Colorado man, crashed his vehicle after failing to stop for police after running a red light on a Friday evening. The officer witnessed the driver run a red light and then attempted to stop him when he drove off. Within minutes of fleeing the officer, the driver collided with another vehicle at an estimated 80 miles per hour. The driver of the other vehicle was a 17-year-old man who was killed in the collision. The teen's father who was a passenger in his vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
In the collision with the teen, the speeding driver was ejected from his rolling vehicle and suffered critical injuries. He was also transported to a local hospital for care. A warrant was issued for the 34-year-old driver and includes charges of reckless driving, vehicular assault, felony eluding, vehicular homicide and several others.
While we often read about individuals walking away from crashes unscathed after driving recklessly, most of us would agree that for this man, justice is not best served in a hospital bed. For individuals that drive recklessly and cause serious injuries or death to others, justice can be served. With the help of a personal injury attorney, responsible individuals can be held accountable, and compensation for their actions can be awarded to those injured.
