Seasonal allergies and motor vehicle wrecks

Most drivers are aware that many different factors can play a role in a crash, such as drowsy driving, the use of intoxicating substances, weather conditions, and the recklessness of others. However, there are certain risk factors that may be overlooked, even by extremely responsible drivers. For example, many people may not realize that seasonal allergies can factor into a motor vehicle collision in different ways. As a driver, it is important for you to be mindful of this issue if you struggle with allergies.

Allergies can, of course, cause someone to feel sick, have a runny nose, struggle with a debilitating headache, and even have trouble with vision. While all of these symptoms can increase the likelihood of a collision, there are other ways in which allergies can be problematic for drivers. For example, a driver struggling with allergies may become drowsy due to allergy medication they are taking. Or, they could be distracted as they reach for a tissue, sneeze, or take their attention away from the road for other reasons. Moreover, allergies can disrupt sleep, which can lead to fatigued driving.

Unfortunately, even drivers who do not suffer from seasonal allergy symptoms could be involved in a wreck when they are hit by someone who does. As a result, it is critical to be especially vigilant during the springtime, as many drivers struggle with allergies. If you are involved in a crash that was caused by allergies, or any other factor, recovery is pivotal. The injuries part of our site has more on traffic wreck consequences.
