Child support is a common issue in dispute between parents who have parted ways as a couple. When the parties are well-known, wealthy or both, this can be a public disagreement. For those who are involved in businesses where vast sums of money changes hands, it can be linked to the child support concerns and other aspects of family law. Such was the case with the entertainment entrepreneur Dame Dash.
Mr. Dash was embroiled in a dispute over child support for his children with two different mothers. He owed $950,000 in overdue payments. However, Mr. Dash was also dealing with a business lawsuit with film producer and director Lee Daniels. That lawsuit for $5 million stemmed from assertions that Mr. Dash loaned Mr. Daniels money for a film investment.
That lawsuit was settled for $1.7 million. To address the child support case, the money owed will come from that settlement and paid directly to the mothers. The agreement occurred after Mr. Dash was arrested for failure to pay child support. When he was released, he stated that he had paid it. Legally, it was not settled until the agreement with Mr. Daniels was complete.
Most child support cases involve lower amounts of money than the case involving Mr. Dash and the mothers of his children. Still, there are lessons that can be learned from these situations and people who are confronted with similar issues can take note. Falling behind on child support payments due to loss of income and other problems can happen to anyone. With any child support case or family law concern, a law firm experienced in these circumstances may be able to help.
